At the public library where I work we have to wear these stupid name tags. They have our name, any way you desire i.e. your first, first and last, first inital and last name, your MR/MRS/MS/MISS last name etc. and title. I got in a very heated debate the other day with another librarian about whether or not certain people should have the term 'librarian' title on their name tag. Only 7 members of the library staff have the library degree while other have a minium of bachelors and some have odd masters in various topics. It annoys me that one of the reference staff, who just graduated this year with her BA in history has the title librarian. Granted many have life long experience but I've always considered the title to be something you earned through a combination of school and professional expereince. Am I the only one? I took the time and money to get the degree and the title of librarian so is it fair for everyone who works say at the reference desk to get the title librarian on their name tag? Why not specialist ?
